Movies to Watch out for on Netflix in 2019

by Farzal Khan1st Jan, 2019

Netflix is the premier streaming service, and is preferred by many due to the fact that it provides quality content. Whether it is a Netflix Original, or a movie that was released in cinemas recently, the streaming giant manages to deliver.

Now that 2018 is coming to an end, you will be wondering what is in store for 2019 on Netflix. Speaking strictly in terms of movies, here is what you can expect to watch on Netflix this upcoming year.

1.      The Irishman

The Irishman

Martin Scorsese is directing this film featuring the legends like Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci. Even though there is no date regarding when The Irishman will be released, but it will most likely be available on Netflix late 2019.

Scorsese returning with his Goodfellas and Heat cast regarding the murder of Jimmy Hoffa will definitely get an Oscar nomination.  It will without a shadow of a doubt be one of Netflix’s biggest releases to date.

1.      6 Underground

6 Underground

Michael Bay will direct Ryan Reynolds, Dave Franco, Ben Hardy and Melanie Laurent in this action movie. Not much is known about when 6 Underground will finally makes its way to Netflix. But from the looks of it, the movie will be a summer release.

The plot is nothing out of the ordinary for Michael Bay, since he does high-bonkers action really well. The story revolves around six billionaires that fake their own deaths so that they could form a vigilante squad to take down deadly criminals. Seeing how the script is from man behind Zombieland and Deadpool, this feature film will hopefully not disappoint.

2.      ELI

ELI Netflix

Directed by Ciaran Foy; ELI will feature stars Lily Taylor, Kelly Reilly, Max Martini and Charlie Shotwell. Since ELI is a horror flick, it will most likely be out on Halloween.

The Irish director already made a name for himself by spearheading Citadel, and then Sinister 2. This time around, he has got a great cast to work with. If that is not enough, the script is written by the minds behind The Autopsy of Jane Doe. As for the plot, it is about a boy with auto-immune disorder who discovers that his house is not entirely safe as he initially thought.

3.      FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

This flick features a cast you may never heard of before. Although there is a date: 18th January 2019.

The documentary is one of a kind, as it tells the story of a festival where thousands of people were left on an island without any means of escape.  It is the greatest party that never happened!

4.      Triple Frontier

Triple Frontier

J.C. Chandor gathers a star studded cast consisting of Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal and Garrett Hedlund.

Triple Frontier will be available for your viewing pleasure on the 15th of March 2019.

J.C. Chandor has made one blockbuster after another i.e. A Most Violent Year, All is Lost and Margin Call. With this stellar cast, Chandor does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. The movie is about five ex Special Forces operatives that unite again, but this time for a heist in South America.

5.      The Last Thing He Wanted

The Last Thing He Wanted

Dee Rees directs Ben Afflect, Anne Hathaway, Toby Jones and Willem Dafoe in The Last Thing He Wanted. There is nothing to indicate when the feature film will be released, not even a rumor for that matter.

Rees’ last project, Mudbound, with Netflix was extraordinary to say the least. His follow-up movie does not seem to hold back. The story is about a journalist who becomes an arms dealer for an undercover government agency after quitting her job. If the synopsis hasn’t got you excited already, what will?

6.      The Laundromat

The laundromat netflix

Steven Soderbergh will feature Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, David Schwimmer, James Cornwell, Will Forte, Antonio Banderas and Matthias Schoenaerts in The Laundromat. As for when it will be released, it will be sometime during the awards season.

Apart from an all-star cast, what’s interesting about this movie is that it is about how the Panama Papers were discovered.

7.      To All the Boys I Loved Before 2

To All the Boys I Loved Before 2

Nothing much is known apart from the fact that the sequel to the original will feature Noah Centineo and Lana Condor. To All the Boys I Love Before 2 could be released in 2019, but there is a chance that this might not be the case at all.

Netflix has proven itself a savior of the rom-com genre, and with how successful To All the Boys I Loved Before already was, it should not come as a surprise that a sequel is in order.

8.      Velvet Buzzsaw

Velvet Buzzsaw

Dan Gilroy with John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Toni Colette and Billy Magnussen in Velvet Buzzsaw will be on Netflix on the 1st of February 2019.

The last time Dan Gilroy and Jake Gyllenhaal got together, we got the amazing Nightcrawler. But this time, you get a one-of-a-kind horror comedy about mega collectors and big money artists, which is essentially when commerce and art collide.

Netflix’s movie lineup for 2019 is by far the best to look forward to. In case you are unable to access any of the movies mentioned above, chances are you will need a Netflix VPN. If you do so, you will get access to Netflix’s entire library, and will also be able to defeat ISP throttling once and for all.
